Winter Session

Therapeutic Movement for Your SI Joints & Low Back

Many of us experience low back pain around the SI (sacroiliac) joint – the bony connection between the bottom of the spine (sacrum) and the pelvic bones (ilia) which transfers load and dynamic forces between the upper & lower body. While it can often feel stuck, unstable or irritated, this amazingly strong, form-closed joint is surrounded by a high density of muscles, ligaments, connective tissue, blood vessels & nerves which can all impact our experience of this complex area. In this workshop, we’ll explore simple exercises to feel the connections between your upper and lower body and learn how novel, varied movement and adding load can help to ease SI joint discomfort. We will also consider how our experience of low back pain doesn’t always indicate where the problem is.

Date: Saturday, January 18
Time: 1:00-4:00 PM
Teacher: Andrea Soos
Fee: $75.00 + HST

Winter Session

Please bring a large blanket and an eye pillow (also available to purchase at the studio).

Winter Session

Restorative Exercise 6-Week Series

Restorative Exercise encompasses all aspects of movement – frequency, habits, limitations and alignment – and examines how we respond to the various loads and forces we’re constantly receiving and adapting to throughout our lifetime. In this series, we will practice ‘correctives’ or micro-movements to uncover deeply-set tension patterns, strengthen weak areas and help to restore our body to a more natural way of moving. We will also discuss lifestyle changes that can support our movement outdoors and keep our body in a state of regeneration. New students and those with previous experience are welcome – new content is always added!

Date: Saturdays, Feb 1 to Mar 7
Time: 11:15 AM - 12:15 PM
Teacher: Andrea Michaluk
Fee: $150.00 + HST for 6 classes

Winter Session

Therapeutic Movement for Your Neck & Shoulders

Our shoulders are the most complex joint in our body, with the largest range of movement, and accordingly, they are most susceptible to injury. Our tendency to hold tension in our neck and shoulders due to stress, and time spent on computers and devices can further aggravate this vulnerable area, often leading to headaches, wrist issues and even hip discomfort. Chronic neck & shoulder pain can lead to headaches, wrist pain, postural issues and even hip discomfort. Join Joanne, a certified yoga therapist, to explore the anatomy and physiology of your neck and shoulders and learn simple movements to reduce pain, ease tension, and improve stability and mobility.

Date: Saturday, February 29
Time: 1:00-4:00 PM
Teacher: Joanne Hudspith
Fee: $75.00 + HST

Winter Session

Yoga for Anxiety 4-Week Series

For those living with chronic stress & anxiety, yoga has been shown to be an effective adjunct to other prescribed therapies, and invites embodiment, or ‘feeling’ the body, which helps to redirect our attention away from narrative loops that can hijack our mind and elicit uncomfortable physical symptoms. This 4-week series will introduce soothing somatic practices, playful task-based movement, restorative poses, mindfulness and iRest Yoga Nidra to relieve tension, calm the nervous system and promote emotional balance. Learn practical skills you can incorporate into your daily life to help you pause, feel your body, and nourish peace of mind.

Date: Thursdays, March 5 to 26
Time: 6:00-7:30 PM
Teacher: Andrea Soos
Fee: $150.00 + HST

We hear lots about "core" and "pelvic floor" in the health & fitness world, but how many of us know exactly what these terms mean?  The pelvic floor is an important part of your core, and core and pelvic floor health is connected to the function of your body as a whole. Join Joanne to expand your understanding of “core strength” with basic anatomy of the core and pelvic floor, their relationships to the rest of the body, and simple exercises to improve these relationships and increase stability & mobility.
