Andrea Soos
Andrea Soos has been a teacher of movement for over 30 years and opened one of Hamilton’s first yoga studios in 1998. Some of her original students are now octogenarians (and beyond!) and continue to join her regularly on Zoom to stay strong, mobile and independent.
Her shift to online classes gives participants of all ages many opportunities to join her each week and stay consistent with their strength training - the current focus of her teaching. You can still expect the flow of a yoga class, with time to rest at the start and end, warm-ups for mobility, posture & balance and simple strength circuits using light to moderate weights. A complete practice in the comfort of your own home when it's convenient for you!
Andrea is well known for her warm & lighthearted teaching and community building, and has taught thousands of people over the decades. She embraces lifelong learning and deeply appreciates her students’ openness to new ideas, modalities, and evolving evidence-based research surrounding what enhances health span.
In recent years, she has found that during heavy times, lifting heavy things can bring strength in unexpected ways - not just to our body, but to our mind and spirit. The combination of maintaining muscle and bone strength as we age while fostering mindfulness and rest is the core of her teaching and interest these days.
Alongside resistance training, Andrea weaves in yoga principles throughout her classes and includes a monthly iRest Yoga Nidra guided meditation and a Restorative yoga class each season for deep rest. Her current mantra, ‘Move...Strengthen... Rest...Repeat...’ reflects a career of on-going exploration and commitment to supporting her cherished students throughout all stages of their lives.
