Friday Night iRest Yoga Nidra

iRest Yoga Nidra is a relaxation practice which allows participants to lie down and rest deeply through guided meditation based on teachings from the yoga tradition and current research. It can be used to develop an inner resource to help navigate and transform negative emotions and thought patterns, calm the nervous system, and foster a deep capacity to meet life as it presents itself. iRest Yoga Nidra is especially effective in reducing stress, chronic pain, sleep issues, anxiety, and the effects of trauma and PTSD. Please bring a large blanket and an eye pillow (also available to purchase at the studio).

Friday Night Restorative Yoga

Enjoy a quiet refuge at the end of the week and rest in gentle poses with the support of bolsters, pillows, blankets and other props for prolonged periods of undisturbed silence. This practice is especially helpful for those dealing with sleep issues, chronic stress & fatigue, illness & injuries, anxiety & depression, or facing major life events. Registration is limited and required in advance. Please bring a large blanket and an eye pillow (also available to purchase at the studio).

Restorative Exercise 4-Week Series

Our body is constantly receiving and adapting to various loads and forces throughout our lifetime.  In order to determine how we are responding to these forces, we can put our body on a grid and practice micro movements to ‘restore’ anatomical neutral.  In this 4-week Restorative Exercise series, we will dive deeply into these movements, or ‘Correctives’, which are practiced within specific alignment parameters to uncover deeply set tension patterns, strengthen weak spots, and keep your body in a state of regeneration.  We will also discuss how the Correctives fit within the context of natural movement, and how you can blend these movements into your daily life!

Rhythmic & Developmental Movement Workshop

Rhythmic and Developmental movements are often used therapeutically to support the nervous system and to improve body awareness. Discover how these "building blocks" of movement can re-wire your mind-body connections, and improve stability, coordination and mental focus. Learn how you can incorporate these movements into your fitness routine to support your transition to spring and summer activities.

Moving Mindfully with Dance

This workshop is an invitation to play and explore through dance.  It is an opportunity to rediscover the impulse to move and listen a little deeper to the body’s cues.  While contacting the present moment, we will delve into ways of accessing movement, creativity and embodiment.  We will learn choreography containing energizing patterns and rhythms and also enjoy expressive qualities of free movement.

Get Ready To Walk with Restorative Exercise!

Applying the principles of Restorative Exercise, we will explore the biomechanics of walking at the studio, followed by a walk in the park!  Get to know your unique gait pattern and how it might be contributing to an unhealthy loading of your skeleton.  Learn how underused feet and tight hips can influence your gait, and discover how improving hip extension can enhance your backward ‘push off’ and enliven your experience of walking.  Rain or shine!

Exploring BodySensing

BodySensing is a practice from the iRest Yoga Nidra protocol that fosters embodiment – the experience of feeling, perceiving and attending to subtle physical messages your body is constantly sending you about your health, emotions, thoughts and well-being.  This experiential workshop will include gentle movement and a complete guided iRest Yoga Nidra practice to help you learn how to open and respond to all sensations, including pain or discomfort, instead of avoiding them with reactivity.

Yoga for Anxiety

Yoga offers many practical tools in managing the physical, psychological and emotional effects of chronic stress & anxiety, and can be an effective adjunct to other therapies.  This workshop will introduce gentle movement, breathing & mindfulness practices, iRest Yoga Nidra and restorative poses to help relieve tension, calm the nervous system and promote emotional balance.

Queer & Trans Yoga Summer Solstice Fundraiser Class

In celebration of Pride Month, join Christopher for a Summer Solstice fundraiser class in support of the Hamilton Aids Network - Rainbow Youth Collaborative.  This beginner-friendly class aims to reach folks who self-identify as LGBTQ+ who are looking for a safe, inclusive and comfortable place to practice yoga and welcome summer in community. Private, gender neutral change room available.
